Social Media Game

Glimpses of ours lives on constant display.

Willingly volunteered for all to see; yet

even still a carefully crafted narrative.

Post the best of multiple pictures taken;

Phrase the caption just right to capture the mood:

Witty, self-deprecating, layered with enough pride

while at the same time not trying to appear boastful.

Other times, attempts made at humor and/or to be thought provoking.

All the while seeking the one thing from those who are connected: a reaction.

A like, a share, a comment back to show that others have at least seen this particular shared glimpse.

The spirit behind began with the best of intentions.

Our separation no longer had to limit us to sharing experiences by proximity.

Association was enough as long as we just took the steps to volunteer.

Connection could remain with those we may not ever actually see again.

Classmates from abandoned hometowns dispersed like seeds on the wind.

Acquaintances or even family become intwined as well within the web.

Images from a specific moment in time periodically challenged as these updates were made.

Remembering someone in a very specific time of intersection that simply may not be relevant any longer.

Childhood friends having children of their own now or paired in relationships that catch you off guard.

How is it possible Chad is in a relationship with Tonya now?

How can Brian have a son playing football and about to graduate?

Amy is a grandparent?

Marco turns 50 today?  Let me wish Marco a Happy Birthday.

These were the things we signed up for in the beginning.

A virtual town square that allowed us all to shout our news.

Then it evolved.

Danny now posts: Got to be on our A game today! GO DAWGS along with an image of the Georgia Bulldog mascot ahead of the upcoming game.

31 click reactions and 18 comments are given.

Cindy posts: Hoppy Bunny Butt Friday from Janie Jane with the slender peets and the nekked ears ❤️

Along with a picture of the backside of a bunny.

An algorithm decided I needed to see this but so did Danny and Cindy.

I too am guilty of this.

Sharing things I find humorous or glimpses into my life at times

Except my last initiated post was almost a year ago

And just to thank those that had wished me a Happy Birthday.

I’m doing my best to not feed the beast.

Giving some parasite company revenue off my volunteered efforts

For the traffic and metrics measured in clicks and comments.

Indentured servitude as long as I continue to be counted among their ranks

And play the social media game.
